• How Do I Become Certified?

There are various pathways to earning a Florida teaching certificate and the Florida Department of Education is the entity tasked with processing applications for a teaching certificate.

Some of the more common routes include graduating from a teacher education program, holding a valid standard certificate issued by another state or a conferred bachelor's degree paired with a passing score on the Florida subject area exam for the area you wish to teach.

To initiate the process, you will submit the online application to the Florida Department of Education along with the $75 application fee (per subject/endorsement) and an official transcript to support all coursework, bachelor’s level and above.

If you hold a valid standard certificate issued by another state, you will need to submit a copy of the front and back of that certificate.

Official sealed transcripts are to be submitted to the FLDOE:

    Bureau of Educator Certification

    Room 201, Turlington Building

    325 West Gaines Street

    Tallahassee, FL 32399-0400

    How Do I Apply?

Visit the Florida Department of Education's website (see our QUICK LINKS) and create your online account.

The application packet consists of the completed online application, payment and receipt of your official sealed transcript(s) by the Florida Department of Education.

Transcripts can take time to be ordered, received, scanned and attached to your account.  Therefore, it’s important to be timely in ordering transcripts for the FLDOE.

    What Happens Next?

Once your application packet is complete, the evaluation process can take anywhere between 30 and 90 days and will result in a Statement of Eligibility (SOE) being issued.

This document will advise if you are or are not eligible for the subject/endorsement for which you have applied.

If you are deemed not eligible, your SOE will blueprint the pathway to becoming eligible.

In most cases, passing the Subject Area Exam will yield eligibility. See our CERTIFICATION EXAMS page for more information.

If you are deemed eligible, the next steps in the process are to secure employment in a Florida public, state supported, or non-public school which has an approved Professional Education Competence Program.

The Nassau County School District is a Florida public school.

Once hired, the verification of employment and request for issuance of your certificate are processed by the Human Resources Department.
